Unexplored Tourist Destinations Identified to Revive Kerala Tourism Industry: State Minister of Tourism

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 9 (PTI) With domestic tourism in Kerala suffering losses of Rs 33,000 crore from March 2020 to December 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the state government said tourist destinations unexplored areas were being identified to attract more travelers to revive the key sector.

According to PA Minister of Tourism Mohammed Riyas, the tourism sector has also suffered a loss of Rs 7,000 crore in foreign currency as the number of domestic and international travelers has declined significantly since 2016 and especially during the pandemic period.

He said meetings have been held at the panchayat level in all districts of the state to identify unexplored tourist destinations and map them.

Subsequently, those places, in each panchayat, would be brought together on an app so that they could be made known to everyone around the world, Riyas said on Sunday.

The minister, at a press conference, said the state government is working to revive domestic tourism by identifying unexplored tourist destinations in various districts and putting them together on an app so that they can be brought to the attention of everyone in the world.

The initiative was mentioned during the press conference that took place to announce the virtual holding of the onam celebrations in which the arts, culture, food varieties and prominent tourist destinations of Kerala would be presented using visual media and other means PTI HMP TGB SS PTI PTI
