Discussions on strengthening tourism cooperation between the Maldives and Turkey

Discussions were held on strengthening cooperation in the tourism sector between the Maldives and Turkey.

Following a ceremony held at the President’s office where the Ambassador-designate of Turkey to the Maldives, Rakibe Demet Şekercioğlu presented his credentials to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, discussions took place on a wide range of topics.

Some of the topics covered include trade, security and counterterrorism, as well as education and human resource development.

As the Maldives and Turkey this year mark the 42nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries on May 28, 1979, President Solih revealed that the Maldives places high priority on their relations with the Turkish government.

That being said, he expressed his gratitude for the continued cooperation and support given to the island nation by the Turkish government.

Shedding light on the Maldives’ interest in boosting trade and investment between the two countries, the Maldivian president called on Turkish companies to explore investment opportunities in the island nation.

President Solih also addressed strengthening cooperation in the tourism sector, with the Turkish Ambassador-designate speaking on ways to alleviate the difficulties faced by Turkish companies active in the Maldives.

Highlighting the growing concerns related to the rise of extremism, radicalism and terrorism, President Solih urged the international community to continue working together to address these threats, ensuring that the Maldives remains committed to continue working with Turkey and other friendly countries to fight terrorism, piracy and other threats from organized crime.

Ambassador Şekercioğlu reiterated this sentiment.

Discussions also took place on increasing training and higher education opportunities for Maldivians through Turkish academic institutions and the Maldivian President expressed his gratitude to the Turkish government for its continued support for the training of civil servants. and Maldivian diplomats.

The couple expressed the hope to see renewed and strengthened relations between the two countries, during the term of Ambassador Şekercioğlu.
